Privacy Considerations

The Salem-Oak Harbor (Ohio) High School Class of 1967 Reunion Committee is sensitive to our classmates' rights to privacy. Internet technologies can be fun tools to enable us to reconnect and maintain communications with our high school classmates. These same devices, unfortunately, can open our domiciles to unwanted obtrusive stuff by unscrupulous commercial interests (spam {junk e-mail}, flaming e-mails, and junk postal material), even to the point of unwittingly endangering our loved ones by enabling stalkers, pedophile predators, or other scum-like organisms to do a dirty deed.

Most of us have wholesome family experiences on the Internet. However, we semi-centenarians have accumulated enough life experiences to know that we must be eternally vigilant in safeguarding the welfare of our loved ones and ourselves.

In this spirit of fun, tempered by the reality of contempory life, the Reunion Committee pledges to respect the privacy rights of all our classmates. This means that any information you supply to the committee will be deemed privileged data and will be used only in the manner you prescribe. If, at any time, circumstances dictate that you impose more stringent conditions on the information you had provided to the committee, and which may appear on the Class of 1967 web site, your updated directive will be executed in a timely manner on both the web site data and records in unpublished files — electronic and paper.

Class of 1967 Reunion Committee's Perspective on Privacy Issues
Privacy Spectrum by Examples
<=== More Privacy ============================== Less Privacy ===>
Total Blind Contacts Semi Little Very Little
"I've served my time with this class. Leave me alone. Period." "Nothing published about me. Informally, via private communications, help me find postal or e-mail addresses and phone numbers of classmates. I'll communicate with them and you privately, thank you." "Go ahead, list and hyper link my e-mail address. If I start getting too much spam, then I'll ask you to remove my listing but allow you to give it to other classmates upon their requests." "In addition to my published e-mail address, please put a hyper link to my personal or family web site." "In addition to my published e-mail address and link to my personal or family web site, put in a link to my employer's web site or a site of special significance to me that our class may find interesting."

As you voluntarily communicate with the committee and give it updated information about you and your family, please make your position on the privacy spectrum as clear as you can. The committee takes a totally neutral position as to whether you choose to publish any of your information on our class web site or not. There will never be coercion in this regard.
